Begonia Facts

The Begonia Grandis, or just known as the hardy begonia has it's origins in Mexico and Central America to the Pan Pacific Region, most noteably China. Begonias that origniated from China have two types of leaves with a greener tone above those that are red and rosy. The other variety, originating in Mexico have large oval leaves and are heart-shaped. The begonia variety coming from Mexico have flowers are white. It is best to plant and cultivate begonias in soil that is rich and constantly moist. A little known fact that the begonia is a southern heirloom plant which is passed from garden to garden, and is useful in the shady border.
