Lilacs are beautiful hardy shrubs that herald the start of spring. A hardy shrub, the lilac flowers offer a beautiful blossom in several different colors from a white to pinkish hues. They were originally from the eastern and middle eastern parts of Europe and ended up in the America's during colonization.
Lilacs have many variaties in terms of hybrid and wild types. Other facts about the lilac include trunks that can come up to 2 feet in circumfrence. Shoots and leaves smooth, leaves heart-shape or ovate, 2 to 6 inches long, from 3/4 to almost as much wide near the base. The flowers can be used in many different and various floral and gardening arrangements, as well as a beautiful accent to yards.
